"Circa 324 C.E., the Christian church came into power in the Roman Empire and legalize Christianity. The church did not like the wild parties and celebration of the "Pagan" god Saturn. So the church circa 900 C.E. said Saturnalia will not be celebrated. Instead it will be a church service (mass) for Jesus's (called Christ -- the anointed one) birthday (who's birth date is unknown)." per Larry Freeman
