"Mother's Day began during the middle ages in Europe as "Mothering Sunday". During this time a young person would leave their home to learn their trade as an apprentice. A few weeks before Easter celebrations many of these young people would return to their homes and families. This was known as "going a-mothering." Upon the Sunday after their return the family would go to church and offer gifts to both their mothers and the church. This day became known as Mothering Sunday. "
